HEXPEROS statement :
In the summer of 2019, during one of the most obscure struggles I’ve ever been through, with my heart full of stories to tell, I began jotting down music and song lyrics and within just a couple of weeks most of this album was written. Over the next several months, I had some very fortunate encounters with talented musicians who became both friends and important collaborators. Each musician has contributed to this album with instrumental arrangements in his or her own personal style. Everything came together so naturally, as if it had been written in our destiny, and for this I am so grateful.
I’ve received so many signs since that summer. One of them came in the form of a chance meeting with Nicolàs Menay, a talented artist from Chile. I complimented him on his unique drawings on social media and then discovered that he was already a fan of Hexperos. His exquisite imagination and evident love for nature and the innocence of children seemed like a perfect match for my music. Each detailed graphite masterpiece reflects his great capacity to give soul to his drawings. Nicolàs has become a friend and he has skillfully translated my songs into images. He has also dedicated many hours to the design of the booklet.
Nicolás Menay is a Chilean artist specialized in drawing with graphite. Currently, he is working on a series of drawings entitled Juegos Velados, where he explores images of childhood as they relate to symbolic elements.
“Alessandras´s music has always been a source of inspiration to me. I feel really honored to have had the opportunity to translate this special project into images, which follow the same emotional transitions that the songs invoke as the album progresses.”
Everyone who has participated in putting this album together has made the experience fantastic for me, both on an artistic and personal level. They have all helped me to find light in the darkness.
I have always loved the opening lines of Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy but now they mean more to me than ever. All of us have those times in our lives when we find ourselves within a dark and daunting forest. This album has come together as a result of that feeling of being lost, empty and terrified. It has been inspired by literary and mythological descriptions of turmoil, of facing the unknown, of questioning the path we have chosen and of losing faith in the journey of our lives. After making it through hell, purgatory and heaven, Dante, as we all should, gains a new understanding of the value of life.
The music and lyrics speak of the search for rebirth and of the progress humans can make during times of suffering. Just like Dante described, the pain we humans experience brings us to encounter new souls and to grow through sharing and listening. From song to song, listeners are led on a journey through the darkness and into the soul where the light within is found.
This is why I’ve chosen to put some of Dante’s verses to music. Also, 2021 marks the 700th anniversary of the poet’s death and I celebrate him.
Last but not least, as always, Nature has been a great source of consolation and inspiration for me, and so has my daughter Elettra, who always holds a special place in my world. I am honored to be allowed to explore life through her eyes at times, to see a glimpse of childhood, of colors, of paradise that can be so easily forgotten by us grownups.
The release of the album has been delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic. However, I feel that it is especially relevant right now, as it is a metaphor of our current difficulties across cultures and a symbol of hope for our rebirth when we finally reach the light at the end of this terrifying pathway.
