Daylight Misery is a Greek doom/melodic death/dark metal band formed in 2008. They recorded the first album “Depressive Icons” in the studio of George Bokos (Stone Cold Dead, ex-Rotting Christ, ex-Nightfall) Grindhouse, which was finally released in April of 2010. Many special guests took part in this album including Sakis Tolis of Roting Christ, Efthimis Karadimas of Nightfall, Jakob Batten of Illdisposed, Vicky Psarakis of the Agonist and Seraph of the German black metal band Dark Fortress who is behind the drum kit. The front cover art was created by Travis Smith.
Two years later, the creation of the second album called “The Great Absence” began which, like the debut, was recorded in the same studio. In this album the band made clear its style that moves in the area of atmospheric/melodic death metal or according to others “dark metal”. This album was released in September 2013 through I for an I Records and the band was presented with a completely new line-up (the bass was recorded by Andreas Lagios from Nightstalker (ex-Rotting Christ). The artwork was created by Seth Siro Anton of Septicflesh.
During the years of their existence Daylight Misery have shared the stage with great names of extreme sound such as Katatonia, Dark Tranquillity, Rotting Christ, Omnium Gatherum, Primordial, Wolfheart, Septicflesh and others, while they have also taken part in the “Aealo European Tournee” in April/May of 2011 with Rotting Christ. They have also appeared in various European countries such as Cyprus, Malta, Slovakia, etc. On October 28, 2020 Ikaros Records re-released the second album in a limited 200 copies vinyl edition. It is almost sold out.
In 2021, Daylight Misery, inspired from the loss of their dear friend Dimitris Theodoropoulos (member of the progressive metal band Rex Mundi from Thessaloniki) on the 31st of May 2021 from cancer, decided to write a song called “Cancerworm” which is based on his story and everything he has been through over the last years of his life. The purpose of this song is to raise money through the sales of “Cancerworm” 7” EP released by The Circle Music, which will be offered in his memory to children who suffer from neoplastic diseases. Many known artists from the heavy metal scene participated on “Cancerworm”. Specifically, guest vocals were done by Aaron Stainthorpe from the British band of the legendary My Dying Bride as well as Sakis Tolis, founder, guitarist, and leader of the biggest metal band of Greece, Rotting Christ. Furthermore, the guitar solo of the song was played by the Greek guitar player Gus G. who has a brilliant career with his main band Firewind and with his solo work as well. It should be noted that during the period of 2009-2017, he was the guitarist of Ozzy Osbourne and launched with him the full-length album “Scream”. Vocals were done by Vassilis Mazaris, bass played by Aggelos Malisovas while Nicos B. played the guitar. The lyrics were written by Vassilis Mazaris and music was created by Nicos B. On the song also participated Harris Pazaroulas, performed the double bass quartet, Kostas Panagiotou member of the Greek-British metal band Panteist on keyboards and Bill Papanikolakis on drums as a session member. The recording/mixing/mastering of the song was done by George Bokos at Grindhouse Studios Athens while the lyric video was created by John Kaimakamis and theNightwatchers. Graphics were edited by Jon Toussas for Graphic No Jutsu.
